Moon and Star on Earth

Moon and Star Islands

“No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend’s or of thine own were. Any man’s death diminishes me because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee…” ~~John Donne (1572 -1631), Meditation 17, 1624.

This is a fantastic photograph of no place on earth! See “The Moon and Star on Earth”.

After I received this picture, I queried various “knowledgeable people” among my contacts as to where “The Moon and Star on Earth” might be. Other than “I don’t know” a nephew wrote:

By close look at the light/shadow and the unlikely waves on the “inside of the star, I suspect that this is a computer generated fake. It certainly would have been widespread knowledge before now if such a very unlikely natural landform existed.

    Is he “right on”?

  2. Neddy Says:

He’s right on. There is more information of “my research” regarding this image at Neddy’s Palaver. Thanks for your interest.

  3. riaan van Zyl Says:

This picture u created inspires a lot of ideas in me an in the world. thank you…

  4. maria Says:

the “moon” is without a doubt Molokini, a partially submersed crater near Maui, Hawaii.
    The pic is a fake.
If you get a chance – Molokini is beautiful and the sea life in that crater is incrediable.

  5. james Says:

If such a place existed the Islamic world would be all over it.

  6. karen Says:

Do you know if the star is real and where can you find it ?

  7. Andrea Says:

The star is fake!! The moon is definitely Molokini in Maui, Hawaii. I was just there about a month ago and went snorkeling there. Beautiful!!

  8. Kevin Says:

There is no way nature could carve out a 5 point star island like that, and right beside that half moon rock.

  9. Cec Says:

Right away it was obvious this was fake. Am I the only one to recognize that it is the symbol of Islam?

  10. mahdieh Says:

    hi

my name is mahdieh and i’m iranian

i’m very galde to visiit your nice photoes

    please viset my website

  11. i really wished and still wish it were true.

  12. mattox Says:

This is most likely representing the star and cresent of kappa sigma fraternity. There are also ties into masonic symbolism

  13. Misty Says:

This photo is mesmerizing. The moon and 5 point star are also old religion / pagan / wiccan symbols. I would imagine many cultures have cause to revere these symbols.

  14. molokini guy Says:

Incredible digital imagery of a fantasy Molokini.

  15. Samina Says:

    this pic is absolutley fascinating,

  16. Sanjay Says:

This is a very nice moon and it is great picture

  17. Joe Orsak Says:

I immediately recognized Molikini as I have been there a couple times.

The rest is a fake of course and I would imagine it is a fake to represent the Islamic symbol.

  18. Michael Says:

    LOL..Check out the REAL molokini.

  19. sarah Says:

    that is so ****** cool

  20. Lily Says:

    so it’s not real? it’s a fake? it’s so beautiful…

  21. Joe G Says:

Com’on people. Don’t be so gullible. I’m not familiar with the site but it took me but a few minutes to look closely and tell that pieces of the “moon” are used to create the “star”.

  22. SUSAN BUATOIS Says:

i would like to buy this picture of moon star in ocean do u have it let me know.

  23. Leihuanani Says:

    Aloha,

I AM NATIVE HAWAIIAN AND DON’T LIKE WHAT WHOEVER DID TO OUR MOLOKINI ISLAND. I REALLY DO FIND PEOPLE OBNOXIOUS MAKING A FAKE PICTURE FROM ONE OF HAWAII’S NATURAL WONDER BY ADDING THE STAR. KEEP HAWAII, “HAWAIIAN” AND STOP TURNING IT INTO A HAOLEFIDE PHOTOGRAPH. LEAVE OUR HAWAII ALONE, YOU’VE DONE ENOUGH TO MESS IT UP AND NOW WHOEVER MADE UP THE STAR BY ONE OF OUR HAWAII’S NATURE WONDER THAT GOD CREATED SHOULD NOW BE CORRECTED. MY GOD, A HUMAN ALWAYS HAVE TO RUIN GOD’S CREATION.
BY THE WAY, HOW RUDE TO SAY IT WAS IN TURKEY, THE CREATOR IS A TURKEY.

    • D. Mahi Says:

      ALOHA LEIHUANANI,
I REALIZE THIS COMMENT COMES ALMOST 1 1/2 YEARS LATE BUT I JUST CAME ACROSS THE HORRIBLEY DESTROYED PICTURE OF OUR MOLOKINI.
I AM NATIVE HAWAIIAN ALSO, ALTHOUGH I JUST MOVED FROM MY HOME IN ULUPALAKUA OVER LOOKING MOLOKINI ISLAND FOUR YEARS AGO TO THE MAINLAND, I’M IN TOTAL AGREEMENT OF WHAT YOU’VE SAID. THERE’S ALWAYS HAOLES TRYING TO RUIN OUR NATURAL BEAUTY. PEOPLE ARE JUST GETTING FOOLED WHEN THEY SEE THIS FAKE PICTRURE AND CALL IT BEAUTIFUL. ITS BEYOND ME HOW NAIVE PEOPLE CAN TRUELY BE. DON’T PAY ANY ATTENTION TO THE HAOLE LEE WHO COMMENTED ON YOU, HE’S JUST AN IGNORANT PUNK WHO OBVIOUSLY KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT LIFE OR HERITAGE, BECAUSE HE DOESN’T HAVE ONE. OH AND ONLY AN UNEDUCATED IDIOT LIKE LEE CALLS LADIES, A DUDE !!!

  24. Lee Says:

    In response to Leihuanani:

Dude…you come across as an extremely angry and hostile person! Sounds like what ever happen to YOUR HAWAII….is your fault, cause you let it happen. Now you just want to set at your computer and gripe about it!

As for the picture I find it inspirational of beauty. Oh yea, there is real beauty on earth created by GOD, even if this is not one of them.

Personally, I have never heard of YOUR Molokini!

Get a Life and let there be Peace, brother.

  25. love to travel Says:

Lee, your comment about the Hawaiian, was not very nice, he is right. This is a fake, and anyone who has been to Maui knows that this picture is Molokini Crater with the star added.

  26. comment by lee,

Anyone who has been to Maui knows that this is the Molokini Crater, and the star was added.

    by love to travel.
it is still neat to see this picture.

  27. Ven Keetslaw Says:

    MORE INPUT STEPHANIE !!.

  28. Sandra Says:

I too use PhotoShop alot (photo restoration)so looking closely at the star, I can see that he built it from the image of the crescent island. The top coast of the star is from the right coast of the crescent directly across from it. Look for repeating patterns. The square boat is also copied.

  29. dagem Says:

when i first saw it it made me cry cause i tought it is Gods way to tell us that he is the one creating both heaven and earth but i tried to make sure it isn’t fake ya it is but still i wish if it were there cause you know no evolution can bring such kind of earth pic righhhhhhht.
    tnx

  30. Brittany Says:

Guess what people? Who cares if this is a fake! Some of you people are making a huge issue out of it! Big deal! To the people who think it is beautiful, I agree with you! It is a really neat picture and I would love to know who came up with such a neat idea. It is just an island with a star beside it. It’s not like it is hurting anyone or anything for that matter. Good god people! See nature’s true beauty! If we want to alter one picture of some island, let us! It isn’t going to kill anyone! God! Awesome picture though! ***** 5/5 stars for this picture!

  31. Raydiry de la Cruz Says:

I agree with Lee and Brittany. Leihuanani totally overreacted. Yes the picture was inspired by Hawaiian beauty, be proud of it! I would recommend you to chill and look at the bright side. stars and moons are symbols to religions, fraternities and people all over the world dont act as if it is only from the islam and that if it is, it wud be bad. Lets respect each other. God created heaven , earth and everything around and between it and i do believe that nature wud be able to amaze us like this.

However instead of bashing the one that was inspired to create this pic, lets admire the person for the God given talent that he/she has. Becoz of talents that we do not understand we can nowadays travel across the world, live in buildings, talk on the phone, cure our children and sit behind a pc to surf the web.

to bad it doesnt exist i wud go and visit i guess i will go to Hawaii to visit the Molokini Crater instead.. U see Leihuanani there is always a bright side!

No offence intended….peace to all and God bless..

  32. John OReill Says:

    Heres a real picture.

  33. Jeremiah Says:

The pic is fake, alright. still, I think it is possible for nature to forge interesting shapes — fractal geometry in snowflakes for example. Then there’s giant’s causeway. On the other hand, I think lei is overreacting. it doesn’t hurt anyone. Of course, I understand that he finds it a mockery of his country, but keep in mind that Hawaii is a place of natural beauty, and some people base artistic photography, even fictional ones, on real places. Don’t take it as an insult, take it as your country inspiring creativity.

    And just for the information:

If such an island existed, it wouldn’t spark too much attention, because people would have known it existed. People are usually interested in something if it’s out of their reach.

And to Sandra, nope, people wouldn’t notice the crater and say instantly it’s God’s way of saying he created heaven and earth. I’m a christian, but let me say it’s the same as if God one day turned the oceans pink with polka dots. People wouldn’t say it’s a sign from God, they’d say “there has to be a scientific explanation.” Killjoy scientists. meh.

    Well, that’s about it.

  34. Sahir Says:

The god is most greater than every thing. How he create in the earth.

    Amazing……

  35. Justright Says:

Fake or not, it does not make any difference to Muslims. We are not supposed to adopt any symbolism even though it does appear on some flags and mosques.

Think maybe their is a place in world. Anyway image is remarkable i hope who saw this in onece he will try to surch in the world.

  49. Rand Says:

It is obvious to that this was an atoll… and they are the result of a volcanic eruption…leaving a hole where this silly star has been placed…it was just too incongruous to be real…we have to heed the words of Barnum and Bailey Circus Master’s and their egregious hoaxer: “Hannum who was quoted as saying “There’s a sucker born every minute.” Lets not let it be you? Lets stop adding fodder to the idea of Dumbing down of America….and start thinking with a tad of scepticism rather than dumb gullibility.
